Impact report – PressPad Remote Season 2
When the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK in March 2020, PressPad, then only a social enterprise, realised that hosting services would need to be paused, as would many internships and placements. Many young people were going to be affected.
When the economy began to falter, many news organisations lost advertising revenue and announced sweeping redundancies and hiring freezes.
This is when PressPad decided to provide as much support as we could remotely. PressPad Remote was born. With its success came the idea of creating an appropriate vehicle to run it: the PressPad Charitable Foundation.
While funding from the first season came from the Future of News Fund, most of the funding for the second season came from our community. In December 2020, PressPad raised £15,494 with 464 supporters in 28 days via Crowdfunder and used some further funding from the Archewell foundation.
